westport coalition against puppy mills
Since 2006, this group of Fairfield County dog advocates has worked on education campaigns to expose the cruelty surrounding the commercial breeding of dogs for sale in pet stores. We are a group of Fairfield County residents with support from all over the country. We have not actively sought funding and wish we didn't have to spend our weekends and spare time educating communities on the perils of pet stores.
This is a horrific industry supported by pet store owners who sell dogs bred as a cash crop.
Hundreds of publicly available documents proving the problems of commercial breeding (puppy mills) have been gathered by our group. Many of the documents show repeat instances of inbreeding, overbreeding and unsanitary conditions.
Each weekend, we conduct protests outside one of the stores that sells hundreds of puppies that begin their lives in puppy mills. Puppies of Westport sells dogs whose parents spend their entire lives in cages on dog farms, mostly in Missouri. Despite this reality, customers to the store are often told a very different story.
